Walking Group Events

Start your Bank Holiday Monday with a pleasant linear stroll from Winchester to Shawford, mostly following the Itchen Way, but with a diversion over St Catherine's Hill and Twyford Down / Hockley Golf Course. Drinks/lunch at The Bridge, Shawford at the end of the walk (approx 12:30pm). Note. This is a linear walk. Return to Winchester by train (13:19) or Bluestar 1 bus (13:16/13:46). OR for a longer walk please look out for Shawford Shuttle (Part B) and return to Winchester by a different (slightly longer) route.

This walk starts at Winchester Railway station. If travelling by car, parking is available at the station (£2) or nearby in Tower Street MSCP (free) (please walk up to the station). If anyone would like a shorter 4 mile walk please contact the walk leader to arrange en route pickup from Chesil Street (Surface) car park (approx 10:45).

A circular stroll at the fringes of the New Forest. A gentle mixture of woodland and heath on fairly level ground but may be muddy in places. Please bring appropriate footwear, Just off the A35 Totton to Lyndhurst road, by the New Forest Inn, just over the railway bridge (if travelling from the Southampton direction). Or- get the train to Ashurst New Forest, arriving by 18.40 (hourly return to Southampton, check www.nationalrail.co.uk

Kilmiston and Hinton Ampner. We will be able to catch a glimpse of Hinton Ampner NT house from the outside. This is a lovely walk of paths, fields and Hampshire villages. A small section on country roads and the "south downs way". Please bring a packed lunch. Park in the recreation ground car park Opposite the Flower Pots Inn. Post code SO24 0QQ . Meeting time for this walk will be 11.15 for a 11.30am start time, to allow anyone who wants to to do the ironing or some painting in the morning.

You are invited to an informal evening of drinks and chat UPSTAIRS AT THE SOUTH WESTERN ARMS in Southampton. The Main topics for discussion are WALKS AND WALK LEADING although a variety of subjects are usually covered. The evening is especially for any prospective WALK LEADERS to come along and be encouraged and inspired by the WALK LEADERS in attendance. The pub has an excellent range of REAL ALE although the consumption of this is not mandatory.
